While some models shy away from the plus size tag, international model and television personality Fiona Falkiner has embraced it. Fiona became a household name back in 2005 when she appeared on national TV screens as a contestant on the first ever Australian series of the reality weight-loss show The Biggest Loser. This television debut saw Fiona lose an impressive 30kg, which in turn saw her finish the show as one of the four finalists for the season. Following the success of the show, Fiona danced her way back in to our hearts when she joined the cast of Channel Seven’s popular series Dancing With the Stars the following year.
In addition to being an accomplished television host and personality, Fiona also has an illustrious career as a plus size model. She has modelled for a myriad of Australian brands, including Myer, David Jones, Autograph, BeMe, Taking Shape and Target. Fiona made a bold step by moving overseas where she spent time in both London and New York to pursue her modelling career, and it paid off. Her modelling career sky-rocketed when she signed with international modelling agencies Milk Models, OK Models and JAG Models which saw her work for international brands such as Avon, Macy’s, Bloomingdales, Boneparte Shop and Yours Clothing.
Deciding to settle back in Australia, Fiona continued modelling and hosted the opening night of the 2015 Telstra Perth Fashion Festival and Adelaide Fashion Festival featuring international labels Yang Li, Maticevski and 33 Poets.
Fiona has cemented herself as an inspiration for women of all sizes in Australia, regularly sharing her journey and health advice with key publications such as Good Health, Body & Soul, Women’s Health and Cosmopolitan. She even scored the first ever plus sized model magazine cover for Maxim Australia!
Following her return to Australia, Fiona stepped back in front of the camera. Proving one of the show’s great success stories, she hosted two back-to-back seasons of the show; TBL Families and most recently, the revamped version of The Biggest Loser Transformed in 2017. Throughout both seasons Fiona offered a great source of support, compassion and inspiration to the contestants on what was a very emotional rollercoaster.
Fiona’s widespread appeal and popularity has seen her become brand ambassadors for many brands. In 2016, she was made an ambassador for Target Australia alongside Jessica Mauboy, Dannii Minogue and Sonia Kruger, as well as being an ambassador for the Sydney Harbour 10K, Trimfit Bodies and eHarmony, among other brands.
Fiona is a current ambassador for Autograph Fashion, which saw her design her own range of activewear labelled Active by Fiona Falkiner in 2017. Fiona felt that there was a big gap in the market for affordable and comfortable trendy active wear for curvy women, and did something about it. The range has been nothing short of success and the partnership between the two has been a match made in heaven – so watch this space!
Away from the camera, Fiona loves spending time back home in Australia with friends and family, as well as and planning her next overseas trip. An avid traveller, Fiona enjoys taking time to document her travels by blogging for Expedia. One of Fiona’s travelling highlights was a five day trek to Machu Picchu in 2017, followed by a six week adventure in South America.
From the small country town of Birregurra, Victoria, all the way to the international fashion stage, Fiona does shy away from a challenge and knows that it is all about perserverance and hard work to reach her career, health and fitness goals.
